How StageRight Helped Renovate Capital One Arena for the Second Time
May 20, 2020
Capital One Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Washington DC. Originally opening in 1997, it was known as the Verizon Center from 2006 – 2017. Currently it’s home to the NBA’s Washington Wizards, the NHL’s Washington Capitals, and Georgetown University’s men’s basketball team, along with other events throughout the year. Being in the heart of DC, it’s always busy.
This installation was part of a renovation project that took place in 2019 and it wasn’t the first time we’ve done work in the arena. In 2009 we installed our Telematic 200. This set-up required the facility to have two different sets of telescopic risers. One was used for hockey games and the other for basketball since each event has different seating requirements. The graphic below shows how each riser worked for each event.
Part of the reason for this new renovation was to upgrade this system. Capital One Arena is now using our dual rise telescopic seating riser called the Telematic 100DX2. This change will allow them to use the same riser for multiple different events. The upgrade will help them save storage space and they will be able to have a significantly faster changeover. This is vital because their operations require quick and reliable changeovers between different types of events sometimes within the course of a single day.
This improved speed paired with our reliability and the premium fan experience they enjoyed with the 200 led to them wanting to work with StageRight again for this project.
Here’s a link to a video so you can see how the dual rise works.
In addition to the Telematic 100DX2, Capital One Arena also purchased our Telematic 100 for some additional seating locations.
The installation for this project was seamless. We had already leveled their concrete areas out during our previous installation in 2009. Just like with all of our telescopic seating projects, the systems were manufactured and assembled as much as possible ahead of time.
Since the project has been completed, the Capital One Arena team is extremely happy. Their changeover time and costs have been reduced significantly and they have more storage space available. We’d like to thank them for allowing us to be part of their success now and into the future!
